Rough mucosa in Hepatic gastropathy A rough mucosa (at times also snakeskin pattern) is a mainstay of portal hypertensive gastropathy.

The picture shows a severe case. Note the rough mucosa, the speckled erythematous changes and the snakeskin pattern. The discriptive term "water melon stomach" is also used in this instance. This is a mild case, but it shows to a lesser extent the same changes with a speckled erythema and the snakeskin pattern.
